Problems with 2011 Buick Regal ENGINE

On average, the 2011 Buick Regal starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 69 678 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2011 Buick Regal

113,000 miles, the car said reduced engine power, service stabillitrack and then died. wouldn't start. took to repair shop and they pulled the solenoid from the engine and said it was covered with metal shavings. car was within oil change range but no oil present. now have to replace the engine and this is an issue with all these 2.4 engines.

Whenever i am driving my vehicle for an hour it starts to stall or sputter in traffic and the engine dies completely. it will restart but still continues to hesitate when accelerating. i've taken it to a mechanic and no error codes pop up when this happens so they do not know the cause or how to fix the issue.

2011 buick regal purchased from show room floor in 2011. presentative maintenance up to date. no warning lights. something terribly wrong with transmission, engine. while driving on city street approaching interstate at 25 mph, car starting stalling, puttering, losing power. pulled over, put in park. then car would not go into gear. would accelerate but would not go into gear or move. had to be towed. first thing dealer service center suggest is $3000 transmission. car only has 60,000 miles, one owner. no way! no prior symptoms or warning lights, in fact onstar diagnostics currently showing no issues found with engine/transmission system. this car is unsafe and should be recalled!!! 2011 buick regal diagnostics report from your 2011 buick regal as of 07/08/2019 no issues found

Back on february 9th, 2019 i had an oil change and received whatever premium-ultra synthetic oil they had. this oil was rated up to 9,000 miles i believe. as i was heading in for an oil change on the morning of june 2nd, 2019 the car suddenly locked with brakes and steering becoming extremely stiff. i was driving when this occurred but had been coming to a stop with nobody in front of me luckily. had this happened 15 seconds before as i was going 55mph around a curve, i would have undoubtedly killed myself or someone else. there was no ability to steer the car or brake. when i took the car to the dealership they told me the engine would require a complete rebuild, costing seven-thousand-dollars. they claim it was caused by a "lack of maintenance (ie. not keeping up on oil changes)". the lack of oil then caused the timing chain to break, which then further damaged intake valves, head gaskets, balance chain, etc. now i know february 9th and june 2nd is nearly four months apart, however, in that time i had put less than 2,000 miles on the car. how was i supposed to know that my ultra synthetic oil which is rated for four times longer, in a car that in that time had been reported to burn oil, and doesn't have an oil level sensor, would burn oil? in my mind this isn't a lack of maintenance, it is gm's lack of communication. gm never informed me of any issues regarding oil burn, yet they supposedly require technicians to roll back the sensor because of this very issue. i should also mention that miraculously the car wasn't giving any outward signs of distress including extra noise, loud idle, handling differences or anything. while my situation ended with no injuries, after reading about this issue i am one of the lucky ones. this issue is not only unjustly draining bank accounts but also costing lives.

Timing chain tensioner failed at just less than 75,000 miles. i've been told by 2 different mechanics that it would be easier to replace the entire engine than get the pieces out of the engine.

The car was very noisy at start up. had the oil changed, the noise was better for a while but came back in less than 2 months and now it is constant. the car will stall out in the middle of driving. i will lose everything, electrical and power steering. this would happen whether or not on a highway or during city driving. engine light came on and i took it to my mechanic. mechanic told me it was in reduce power mode. camshaft coralation code.

Engine of my car acts weird and i took it to the mechanic shop and they say theres nothing wrong

Our cur completely shut off all power lights engine everything doing 80 mph on interstate 84 in idaho. a semi seen it happen jumped in the middle of both lanes to block traffic so we could get to the shoulder. in a no cell phone area 13 we disconnected the battery and had to shift srive it in limp mode. no alert lights came on we took it yo a certified dealer to find the pistons, timing chain and other things are ntoken gm/ buick was notified they decided to decline assistance because we are out of warranty 93k miles on the car and over 5,000$ in repair and possibly another 2100$ to repair the cadilitic converter. we were in a no cell service area and had to drive in the shoulder now the headlights won't turn on at all either. the car never alert us it just shut off the dealer says the oil was very low again no oil light came on with that yhe dealer says therecould be a bcm/ecm communication issue costing 1200.00 to 2500.00 to fix. they can't assess completely until the piston/ timing belt issue is fixed but the car is not communicating the steering is now super tight and the only yhing it says now is service stibilatrac and the mechanic didn't even bring that up

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 buick regal. while driving approximately 25 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated intermittently, which caused the vehicle to go into limp mode. the contact mentioned that the vehicle failed to accelerate more than 1 mph. in addition, the vehicle needed to be restarted in order to operate. the contact called vision buick gmc (800 panorama trail s, rochester, ny 14625, (585) 200-3905) and informed them of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 83,000.

Had to replace engine because of detergent in recommended engine oil. with the yearly oil change and high detergent levels it eats away at seals and gasket.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 buick regal. while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and an abnormal noise was heard coming from the front of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to liberty buick gmc (9028 e independence blvd, matthews, nc 28105, (704) 708-8000) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. on another occasion, while driving, there was an abnormal noise coming from the engine. it was discovered that the engine oil was below the low marker on the dipstick. the contact was informed that there was no oil leak evident; however, there was an excessive amount of oil consumption. the vehicle was not repaired a second time. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and provided case number: [xxx]. the approximate failure mileage was 64,000. *tt consumer stated transmission and engine failed.*jb parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *js

Icar only has approx 86,000 miles. was riding down street car shut off. it turned right back on but it was making a very loud noise. parked it. next morning went to start it and it wouldn't. had timing silenoids and starter changed. car is read no codes and it still went start. had taken to another shop for second opinion. they said i needed a motor. where am i to get $2800

While driving on the highway at 70 miles per hour, car completely shut off. loss of engine power and car would not restart. prior to that, entine car shook violently right before the shut down. i was driving on an interstate with light traffic. car is extremely unsafe.

2.4 l 4cyl engine burning excessive oil between oil changes

Check engine light on. code p0011 present. indicating over-advanced camshaft position sensor. while performing a u-turn, the vehicle died/lost engine power and steering locked in place in the middle of the road. the vehicle was spread across three lanes, as i was in the middle of my u-turn, with oncoming traffic approaching. luckily, i was able to start the car back up and regain control just as traffic neared my position. almost deadly situation. also noticing engine hesitation as well as shaking of the vehicle while idling.

Nyb car has less than 69k miles and is burning through oil. i bought it used and the dealer liked warranty ended before problems started. my check engine light came on within the first 2000 miles of me driving and the dealer wanted to charge me another $200 for a diagnostic. so i went to a mechanic and he said the engine was burning through oil faster than it should. at this point the car had turned off while under 10mph twice which is dangerous as the brakes lock up along with steering becoming very stiff. a mechanic did work on the car replacing plugs and other parts that had been damaged fue to the oil being gone, but the same engine is still in the car. now less than a year later along with regular oil changes the car still burns through oil. the engine causes the car to rock when at idle and when moving under 5mph. my fear is that ive car will shut off again. this is a fault of buick for designing an engine that can't hold oil.

Piston ring failure causing massive oil consumption timing chain tensioner failure

Tamara recall; my buick regeal is 2011 with 84000 mileage. a frustrating rotting/granding noise comes out from the engine from the car ignition turn on to accelerating fr0-25mph, before the annoying noise stop. engine also misfire and car dies when it likes; stability control indicate on the screen. when check online, lots of people have complained about the same problem and how difficult for it to be resolve as many things brocken can cause the problems.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 buick regal. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced engine failure while reversing out of a parking space. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was then towed to la fontaine buick gmc of ann arbor (500 auto mall dr., ann arbor , mi 48103, (734)7079368) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain fractured and caused the engine to seize. in addition, metal shavings were found in the engine. the vin was not included in a recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

we are big fans of our buick's, as of now we've owned three and have had no problems. but now with only 87,000 miles on it the timing chain guide tensioner has to be replaced. it was diagnosed in an emissions test. we've looked on line for a recall and all we see are so many others with the same issue and no help. this is extremely frustrating to us as buick owners . i'm asking that you recall this issue and keep us buick owners. it's a very costly issue to replace and for less than 90,000 miles on our regal that's not normal. i am asking you to contribute/reimburse us for at the very least a portion of the cost. with a baby on the way we had no choice but to take it in for the repairs. we'd love to continue with purchasing buicks in the future but if this will not be looked into we will have to rethink gm products. please help all your loyal customers. whatever you can do will be greatly appreciated..

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 buick regal. while driving various speeds, the vehicle made a loud whining noise. the vehicle was taken to copple chevrolet gmc in louisville, nebraska where it was diagnosed that the water pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact stated that the timing chain failed and was also replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 78,000. the vin was not available.

The throttle body has a defect which shuts off all power to vehicle with no notice. the engine and transmission lock up you lose all steering control and no brakes. also no lights so when it happens at night it is pitch black. gm does know about the problem and when i questioned them about the loss of life like what happend with the chevy cruze all members of gm are told to hang up the phone. it has happend on several occasions and the dealership sent me back on the road knowing the problem. dealer rep said if i was a better customer thay may have done more for me.

Timing chain engine failure

The morning of dec 8 i was pulling into my job parking lot and the engine shut off 3 times. after work on the way home i noted a rough idle. i pulled into a gas station and it shut off again. i was about 100 yards from my gm dealership so i parked it there for service/repair the next day. i was called on the 10th and was told it was the timing chain and this repair would cost approx. $2200. i was then told on the 12th that the timing sprocket and cam shaft would have to be replaced adding cost to this poor material or poor workmanship. i remember a recall on a engine earlier in the year that i thought the dealership repaired which i believe was something involved with the cam shaft but i know they had to go into the engine. this shutting off while the vehicle is in operation really scared me and the cam shaft, cam shaft sprocket and timing chain should have been made of a better material, a stronger material. $2000 spent earlier plus the $2200 estimated no i could have purchased an engine for $4200. my vehicle is currently at burns chevrolet being repaired since dec 8th. this is a real safety issue that should be looked into.

I previously reported an issue in 2016 with engine failure due to timing chain failure where i was driving down the highway in heavy traffic and immediately there was engine failure, loss of power and was put in a very unsafe position. after i coasted my car, with 4 ways on, to the side of the road i called a tow truck which towed me to the nearest gm dealer which was victory chevy in milan michigan. after some diagnosis they informed me of the complete timing chain failure and internal engine damage. at the time i had 111k miles on the odometer. i was informed the car needed a complete rebuild and i voiced my displeasure about the failure so soon after the expiration of the 100k warranty. what gm did agree to was to split the repair 60-40 where i was responsible for approx. $2700 of the rebuild. at that time i complained about the rebuild versus a new motor and was told that was all they would offer me. i again complained that if it's rebuilt i will be back in with the same issue in the future so here i am less than 18 months after a rebuilt motor i take the car to the dealer for a loud noise on startup and smell of an oil leak. the dealer now tells me the timing chain needs replaced again along with a top end rebuild costing approx. $4500 although there is no drivability issue with the car. so i called gm customer center and spoke with the supposed "head service advisor" and was told by him that since the car is out of the 12 month warranty they would offer no assistance. i informed him i have been a gm customer since 2003 and this is the absolute worst vehicle i have ever owned. the timing chain is a known issue in these cars for failure and not just with higher mileage engines. why is gm not issuing a campaign for these vehicles and their motors? i have replaced so many things on this car i am going to file a complaint with the bbb and pursue lemon law.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 buick regal. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle seized at a red light and never restarted. the contact stated that the timing chain failed and disrupted the engine, leaving the vehicle inoperable. there were no warning indicators illuminated before or after the failure. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was visually diagnosed. the visual diagnosis determined that the failure part was the timing chain. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not notified. the manufacturer was notified. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 69,926. *tt *tr

The vehicle seems to want to cut off while at a traffic light! i simply do not understand why the engine seems to be so loud. i had both shocks and struts replaced after purchasing this vehicle. the entire frame seems to nose dive or "wander" while i am driving on the highway, totally uncomfortable feeling. tires are basically new i just don't know what seems to be going on with this car!

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 buick regal. while driving 40 mph, there was a misfire in the engine and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the timing chain fractured and caused severe damage to the engine. the vehicle was then towed to countryside gm (n8167 kellom rd, beaver dam, wi 53916, (920) 885-3301) to be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 96,351.

The car stalls when shifting gears. at first, it was only when i was stopped then began to drive and the car was shifting into first gear. however, it recently got worse. i was recently on the freeway and when i reached 60 mph, it stalled, began to shake, and decrease in speed. it wouldn't let me accelerate. once i got off the freeway and reached under 10 mph, it began to work again but still stalled every time it shifted gears. i've taken it to the dealer and they say they can't find anything wrong with it.

Vehicle has 69,579 miles. while turning onto side street off of main road, engine shut off causing loss of power steering and brakes. vehicle was able to be restarted after a minute and driven home. vehicle was taken to lester glenn buick dealership for this problem . the dealership was "unable to duplicate the problem" and there were no codes showing a problem. i was told that the issue was that the vehicle was 100 miles overdue for and oil change and was a little low on oil. when i questioned this i was told it is a "safety feature" to protect the engine from damage because of low oil. i asked if it was a "safety feature" than why was my son able to restart the vehicle within a minute. still have not received an answer. i have made numerous calls to g m about this issue but all i have gotten were two calls to my house phone when i was not home when i specifically left my cell phone number to be called. i have called an additional three times and left a message for a senior adjuster to call me back and still have not received a response. as luck would have it, i own two 2011 buick regals and my daughters car is experiencing the same issues, but that will be listed as another complaint . appears to be multiple issues on the internet with this same concern, but nothing seems to get done

Last nite, 9:30 pm we came out of publix parking lot doing an easy left. the engine shut off, all lights lit up on dash and center console lit up saying "lower driver window.." followed by "lower passenger window"!! we coasted to side of road, put it in park then it started and we got home. this morning, a easy right onto highway and locks opened and closed by themselves at about 30 mph! during the hwy drive, at 75mph car stutters, engine whines then catches itself, all dash lights come on and the engine light blinks 3 times then goes out! what the he**.. could have died!

Buick regal 2011 is currently at 67k, the vehicle had transmission replaced at 63k. the automobile continues to stall as there seems to be concerns related to the acceleration/power of the car at times, vehicle doesn't display the power it should be driving with. in addition automobile is making a squeaking noise from the water pump or belt when vehicle air conditioning is ran (either in motion or stationary).

Only 64,000 miles on the car and the engine light came on and the timing chain was bad. i believe it is a defective timing chain

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 buick regal. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced overheating and stalling. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was towed to wright chevrolet buick where it was diagnosed that the balanced chain was fractured and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and explained that the remedy would be at the contact's expense. if a recall occurred, the contact would be reimbursed. the failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

Engine consuming oil with no leaks. tech said that oil is passing through rings and burning during combustion. my car has 174000 miles and has been well cared for. i am very upset that the remedy for this is to overhaul or replace the engine. also, a/c doesn't work anymore. tech says compressor has failed. please remedy. last american car i buy.

My car stalled while driving home from work on the freeway, almost causing me to get hit by the car behind me. the car had been running fine, there were no indicator/warning lights flashing on my dash prior to this. i and it towed to a mechanic close by and he told me it looks like the timing chain had broke. i bought this as a certified car and have always had the oil changed as soon as the vehicle information lamp indicated it was due.

Replaced engine a 2.4l laf and transmission a 6t-50 with bad trans @ 149k miles on 2011 buick regal. replacement is 2011 2.4l laf engine and 6t-50 trans w/ 17k miles. car now has p0089 and p228d codes and whine from high pressure fuel pump as described in #pip5203a. turns out original engine is a 2010 engine with all the cam chain issues seen in other nhtsa complaints. to add insult to injury my dealer tells me ecm can not be reprogrammed to 2011 because programming is driven by the vin# only. my only choice is to buy the parts from gm (about $1000) to turn my engine back into a 2010 engine or pay a dealer several thousand dollars to do the work. i`m in a position of paying several thousand dollars more for the car then it is worth. this was to be my retirement gift to myself, guess i will be driving my 1997 pontiac grand am until i drop dead. thanks gm, my brand loyalty sure pays off. my advice to future car buyers, buy another brand!! p.s. i hope this constitutes some emission violation and the epa hits gm with a multi million dollar fine. p.s.s. it dies on the road to. where is marry b. when you her?

When at a stop sign my vehicle died. i was able to restart it but at slow speeds it continued to die. on the way home, at highway speeds the car performed fine. at slow speeds the rest of the day and during a test drive the next day, after about 10 minutes, the vehicle died almost continuously, losing power steering etc. to get home i had to keep a foot on the gas while braking/turning and stopped to keep the idle speed up. i was able to get it to the dealer the next day. the diagnostic check revealed a p0010 failure code from which they found the intake camshaft actuator solenoid was shorted. they replaced it and currently it is operating fine. they indicated it was not covered under warranty and not subject to the specific vehicle recall that i received.

When driving or coming to a stop or even making a turning the vehicles shakes and then shuts off, this first happen when i was driving the car on a very busy street, the first time this occurred it happened with no warning just a shake and then the car shut off, reducing speed rapidly , causing the traffic behind me to do the same, thank god that there wasn't an accident, but it sure could have been. and now i see on the forum that i am not the only one with this problem, buick isn't doing anything about it, does this fall under the lemon law, help

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 buick regal. the contact stated that the timing chain was stretched, which caused a knocking and ticking noise from the engine. the contact was informed that there was a service bulletin associated with the issue. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the contact was advised to file a complaint with nhtsa to see if the vehicle could be repaired per a technical service bulletin. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 buick regal. while driving 10 mph, the contact observed an abnormal sound coming from the engine without warning. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. the dealer advised the contact to conduct an oil consumption test over the next two months. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 buick regal. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle hesitated and stalled without warning. the dealer diagnosed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 buick regal. while driving and while stationary, the vehicle shut off unexpectedly. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was able to restart successfully. later, when backing out of a parking space at 2 mph, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 42,000. the vin was not available.

Vehicle still stalling; replaced belt and tensioner 3rd time since aug 2014

Vehicle cut off while i was driving. loss all control while turning a corner in town

There have been issues with the engine starting which is apart of a class suit but has not been solidified. i am angered as to why my car keeps not starting when in position. i have to try to start my vehicle several times before actually starting. now i take it in and its still an engine issue which they said it was the camshaft. my local dealership has no loaner vehicle and im now without a vehicle. so upsetting.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 buick regal. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled and the steering wheel seized without warning. the vehicle was able to restart. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 21,200.

My brake pedal is sticking causing my car to stall and my cruise control not to work, i have to manually pull my break pedal back up after i use my brakes while driving. my car is also just dying with no warning, while driving down the interstate. my lights, and radio will stay on when this happens, but my air conditioner and engine will cut off. it has happened over a handful of times in the last 3 weeks, it's gotten to the point that i am scared to drive it anywhere.

Car stalls while driving on the highway, tremendously dangerous to my family and other drivers. this happens without warning and no check engine lights, the car becomes completely unresponsive but all the lights are still on. this scenario is hazardous to the traveling public on all roadways!

I have owned my regal since 2011. as i accelerate the car would shudder and shake, then i would get a service stabilli trac message followed by a message stating that the engine power has been reduced. after i have the issue it will reset itself after restarting and then will run fine for a while. i called on star on several occasions and they told me that it has an engine misfire or the stability trac needs to be serviced or the electronic throttle body is malfunctioning. i have taken the car to the dealer and they tried to fix without any luck. i think part of the trouble with fixing it is the fact that the computer resets itself and therefore they can't find a code. the other issue with trying to fix is the fact that the car only has the issue when it is 35-40 degrees outside and below. other issues i have had, driver's seat heater not working, outside trunk release not working, passenger side seat belt does not connect properly and of course the recalls for the driver's seat bolt and exterior turn signals. now for the bad news for myself is that the car is out of warranty. given the fact that i have read many similar complaints and most of them not being resolved, i find it very hard to bring myself to take it to the dealer and have them guess to what the fix may be at my expense.
