We have classified the 18 complaints from 2000 Buick LeSabre about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
Power windows have broken 6 times. the drivers window account for 3 of the times. the drivers window is currently stuck in the up position. *nlm

2000 buick lesabre all four window regulators on my parents car have failed beginning with the first one in 2002 (repaired by the dealer under the warranty). two others failed in after the warranty expired in february 2004 and october 2004 respectively (repaired by a reputable repair shop but not a buick dealer). the fourth window failed recently but has not been repaired. my mother complained to buick several times and after being promised full reimbursement for the two failures in 2004, was sent a check for only half the promised amount and advised nothing else would be covered. because the car was purchased in new jersey but had been relocated to florida - neither state would cover anything under their respective lemon laws. gm insists this is not a wide spread problem although in a quick 15 minute search of the web i found over 175 complaints (all of who said gm stated the same thing). *jb
Consumer states while the car was running a fire started under the hood. ts prior to fire vehicle lost electric power and warning lights on dash flashed on. air temp sensor, air intake duct, inner and outer air cleaner assembly replaced. washer reservoir replaced. pcm repgorammed. *tt
All four windows have failed since august 2002. the drivers failed most recently when approaching a toll booth and the distraction nearly caused a collision with another vehicle. dt
Consumer states that while driving at highway speed in a down poor of rain, the drivers side wiper quit, twenty minutes later the passenger side wiper stopped. consumer states he was almost killed, could not see. took to buick, buick stated that bolts that hold windshield wiper arms came loose. consumer states there is no information in owner's manual that states you should make sure the two bolts are tight periodically. *ts *jb
While driving the vehicles tread separated from the right rear tire which caused the vehicle to veer into a guard rail. other problems are as followed: drivers side and rear windows are inoperative, cruise control switch is inoperative and after it rains there is a water puddle on the driver side floor. *scc *nlm
The regulators on all windows had to be replaced. several months later, the same problem persisted. when the consumer called buick, the consumer was told that it was due to the lack of use. *ak *sc *jb
The electric windows mechanism fails resulting in replacement at $500 per window each time. all four window mechanisms have had to be replaced in a 2 yr. period. now the driver's side window works at times, and will not work at times. this will be the 5th window replacement. ridiculous that there is no recall on these mechanisms. a friend has the same vehicle and he has had to replace his also. *jb
Dt: the contact's vehicle had five different electrical window failures. the windows could not be rolled up or down because the belt inside the window broke. the dealer repaired the windows. the manufacturer advised the contact to take vehicle to the dealer for repairs. they offered no free remedy. *ak
The motor and cables do not operate, preventing the windows from rolling up. this could cause the passengers not to have an emergency exit in an accident. manufacturer has been contacted by consumer, and is aware of the problem.*ak
Tl*- the contact stated that the windows on the 2000 buick lesabre would not work when he depressed the window switch. the contact stated there was no particular time of the day when this occurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealership, and the contact was informed that the window motor assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic to have the window motor assembly replaced on the driver's side rear window. the passenger's side front window motor assembly was also replaced approximately a year later. in addition, the driver side front window motor assembly had to be replaced. the contact stated that once the window motor assembly was replaced he never had a problem with that window again. the vehicle currently has 55000 miles. *ak updated 04/05/07. *jb
Since purchased new, a 2000 buick lesabre has had all four power window regulator assemblies fail without warning, i.e., the windows stopped working,(not all at one time, but over the intervening years) creating a safety problem in the event of a need to evacuate the car, to conduct business at a toll lane, for example, or to respond to a police traffic stop. and the driver's window has failed a second time, after having been repaired by buick, for a total of five failures of the same electrical/mechanical system. buick replaced the first assembly under warranty. the next three repairs cost approximately $435 each at buick. the fifth repair was done at an independent repair facility at a cost of $333. the independent shop and several other sources have anecdotally related many other incidents of an obviously defective electrical/mechanical system. buick has acknowledged some liability and has agreed to reimburse about 50% of the repair costs. however, i believe that this problem is a safety issue and/or a significant product defect that should be subject to recall.*ak
Lf power window failed twice, repaired under warranty. lr window failed twice, once under warranty and once out of warranty. gm wanted $500.00 to repair lr window out of warranty. after several weeks of haggling with gm, they repaired it for $100.00. rf and rr windows failed later and have never been repaired. gm knows that they have a factory defect but will not acknowledge the fact. *jb
The vehicles power window motors failed. this resulted in the passenger side front and rear windows sticking in the half way down position. the motor was replaced but the problem recurred. *nlm all four windows has had replacement motors. the front passenger window has been replaced twice. there is no warning before failure. the motors were gm parts, also the replacement motors. scc
Could not close right rear window. dealer notified, and replaced power regulator. feel free to provide any further information.*ak
Safety belt on driver side sometimes fails to latch because the latch mechanism fails to return to its proper location inside the latch housing. i have to press and hold the latch and then use a butter knife to pop the latch back out so that it will latch properly. the driver's side rear power window just started sliding down the track one day and now will not go up or down using the switch. i've had to slide it up into place and the tape it shut with package sealing tape. the front driver side power window sometimes fails to go up or down when i press the window down button. then later it will respond appropriately. johnson motors replaced the passenger side front window motor last year when i took the car in to have it serviced and have some scratches buffed out that had been there when i originally purchased the vehicle. the windows are a very real problem but the seat belt latch failure is a real life-threatening situation.*ak
Right front passenger's side window stopped operating, will not open or close. dealer notified, and replaced cable and power regulator. feel free to provide any further infromnation.*ak
Tires, rotors, tie rods, power windows malfunctioned. *ak
Power window assemblies have to be replaced because the cables become entangled and cause the power motor to fail. this has happened to the drivers front and back doors; and to the passenger's side front door. the window drops down and allows the outdoor elements (rain and snow) to ruin the interior of the vehicle. to my knowledge, the manufacturer has not come up with a solution for the problem.
Dt: the contact owns a 2000 buick lesabre. the contact had to replace three of the four power windows, and now the fourth window needed to be replaced . the windows had to be replaced within the last four years. the vehicle has been taking to the dealership while it was under warranty, but they could never duplicate the problem with the power windows and the regulator. therefore, they would not correct the problem. this was on the driver's side window. the three window regulators had to be replaced out of pocket by the consumer the dealership would not help with the cost of repairs. this was an intermittent problem. when the problems first started the window would go up slowly and then it would go out. *ak
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 buick lesabre. in october of 2005, the front driver side window dropped and would not roll back up. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that a plastic cuplin failed. the vehicle was repaired by her son. the contact wrote a complaint letter to the manufacturer and never received a response. in august of 2007, the windows began to make a grinding sound when they were opened or close. the failure occurred with all four windows, but was worse with the two rear windows. she called gm and was informed that they would investigate the failure, but they never called her back. months later, gm called and stated that nothing could be done. the failure mileage was 98,565 and current mileage was 147,000.
Drivers side window will become inoperable, power locks worked fine. contacted dealer, and dealer was not willing to do anything.*ak consumer stated dealer did replace window, however it failed again.*slc
When using side mirrors to back up they would continually drop down. driver's side mirror will not come back to original position. a problem when not able to use side mirrors.*ak the mirror problem was a serious hazard. *yh
At the first filling of gas tank, fuel came out of bad gasket and spilled fuel causing wicked bad fuel smell through out interior of car. heater has never operated properly. the only way that you can be comfortable in cold weather is to operate manually. the alternator has always had a very noticeable and annoying hum at slow speeds. the alternator has been replaced twice, with no improvements in the noises. power assist failed and as a result i lost all braking and a strong odor developed inside the car. this is ok now and along with the gas tank is the only things that have been repaired.
While driving in the rain the windshield wipers make windows smear and look like the have oil on them, affecting consumer's ability to see. consumer feels there is a defect in the windshield, not in the wipers because he took vehicle to the dealer, they replaced windshield wipers and tried to clean windshield 4 times, but problem still exists. *ak *ml
Slope of the windshield and color of the dashboard causing reflections which create poor visibility. mjs
